The other day I received an envelope in the mail that had your typical "Big News" wording on the outside. Normally this would have been reserved for the garbage but since it had the Citi and AA logo on it I decided to take a look. Turns out it was indeed big news! The Citi AA cards are getting a HUGE benefits upgrade! The letter is embedded below and upgrades go into effect on November 23rd, 2014.
Here are some of my favorites:
- The introduction of Trip Delay Protection for coverage of up to $500 dollars a day.
- Premium Car Rental Insurance for cars worth up to $100,000 dollars. This means you have another choice of credit card to rent that Tesla!
- Damage and theft protection now lasts 120 days vs. the industry norm of 90 days.
This is clearly an attempt by Citi to take on some of the leading benefits that are offered by other top credit card issuers such as American Express and Chase. Citi never really quite had anything going for them in terms of great partner cards, but have been upping their game recently by adding more transfer partners to their ThankYou reward points program and now this.
Other new benefits include:
- Baggage delay protection of $100 per trip when your bags are delayed by six hours
- Trip cancellation and interruption protection of up to $5,000 per year
- CitiPrice Rewind now extended to 60 days of price matching
- Extended Warranty will now cover more items (This was pretty vague, but I can imagine this covers most electronics which is what this benefit is amazing for)
