So this was a new find...as I was helping some friends of mine plan their honeymoon to Hawaii I happened to stumble upon a previously unannounced route from Delta! This one goes from JFK to Hawaii non-stop.

Up until now, the only non-stop flights to Hawaii from New York were on either Hawaiian Airlines (JFK to Honolulu) or on United (Newark to Honolulu). If you wanted to fly Delta you would have had to fly to either Los Angeles or Atlanta first - which usually meant an unpleasant 6 AM flight to make a connection without a multi hour layover.

What's interesting about the flights that are in the screenshot above is that one of the flight codes (DL420) is normally reserved for the NYC-LAX route. Delta is upgrading all the Boeing 767s that serve that route so lie flat seats may be coming to the route as well! Fingers crossed!

I also did some extra digging to see if this was a "direct flight" - which is different from a non-stop flight as direct flights retain the same plane but may make stops; a common practice on Southwest Airlines. It is in fact a non-stop flight.

I sure do hope that Delta keeps this flight route as it would make for a much more convenient escape to paradise for those still loyal to Delta and its SkyMiles program.
